Presenting, The Door to Hell!

What you see here existed in a middle eastern country, Uzbekistan, in the town, Derweze.
Derweze is rich in natural gases and in 1971, while drilling for natural gases, a bunch of geologist found an underground cavern and the ground beneath the drilling rig collasped, leaving a large hole, with a diameter of about 50-100 meters. (VERY HUGE)

To avoid poisonous gas discharge, they decided to ignite this hole hoping it would burn out the poisonous gas, thinking the fire would extinguish in a few days. Who knew, the hole has continued to burn for the next fucking 35 years, rain or shine!

You might be thinking, this hole must have contributed tremendously to our global warming. Ironically, flaring is safer and friendlier to the environment than releasing the methane into the atmosphere as methane is a relatively potent greenhouse gas.

Awesome or what, why haven't I heard of this hole for the past 18 years of my life!?
